Pippin
While vacationing in Seattle last week, we had the pleasure of visiting the 5th Ave Playhouse. Their production of Pippin was outstanding.
The sets were clever and effective, the lighting was for the most part very good, the orchestra a little thin and muddled and the costumes were fantastic.
The opening number, Magic to Do, knocked my sicks off. I got goose bumps. It was as good a production of this show as I have seen. And the theater was magnificent.
Mimi Hines played Berthe, a nice surprise to see her perform live after all the years she has been performing. She's a big ol' ham. Fun Fun Fun night. A real surpise.

Very glad that we went. It's a favorite show of mine.
The lead was prety good but got a litle too Amercan Idoly with some of Schwartz's simple songs. The Leading Player and Fastrada were a bit old and thick for their parts, but Lewis, Catherine and the chorus were great.
Costumes and staging were first rate and the set was very effective. It was Broadway caliber all the way. I can see why they have been trying shows out here prior to Broadway.
I have always wanted to see shows at some of the grand old theatres around the country. The 5th Ave. Theatre did not disappoint. It is huge and beautiful in a very unusual way - interesting mix of Asian and NW Native decorative art.
